Dual Boot Windows 10 and MacOS: A Personal Experience

Are you interested in trying out the world of hackintoshing, but unsure where to start? In this article, I'll be sharing my personal experience of dual-booting Windows 10 and macOS Catalina on my PC.

For those who may not know, a hackintosh is a custom-built computer that runs macOS instead of its usual native operating system. It's a popular trend among tech enthusiasts and Mac fans alike, but it can be daunting to set up, especially for beginners.

My journey began with installing Clover UEFI Boot on my PC, which allowed me to boot into both Windows 10 and macOS Catalina seamlessly. I also installed Install in ESP, FSInject, APFS Driver, VBoxHFS, AptioMemoryFix, EmuVariableUEFI, VirtualSMC, and NTFS Driver using the drivers section in Clover Configurator.

To fix audio issues, I followed guide 1 below and installed ALC1150, 100 series audio, FakeSMC, IntelMausiEthernet v2.1.0, USB Increase max port limit, and Inject Intel HD 530.

After several trial runs, I successfully installed macOS Sierra using a UniBeast drive. Initially, I tried installing Catalina straight away but encountered issues with things not working as expected, such as audio and display output problems.

To set up my BIOS, I turned off secure boot, enabled Windows 8/10 features as Other OS, XMP Profile 1, Initial display output as iGFX, disabled serial and parallel ports, enabled XHCI hand-off, and SATA AHCI mode. I also enabled internal graphics and switched HDMI output from my graphics card to the motherboard's HDMI port.

In terms of storage, I'm currently using a 240GB SanDisk SSD for Windows, a 2TB WD hard drive for Windows, and a 320GB Hitachi hard drive for macOS. Although I'm using an old hard drive for now, I plan on upgrading to an SSD in the near future.

One thing worth noting is that my PC has been running Windows 10 for some time before I attempted hackintoshing it, but Clover seemed to recognize everything fine. This is just a personal experience, and not intended as a comprehensive guide for others looking to set up their own hackintosh.

In conclusion, dual-booting Windows 10 and macOS Catalina on my PC has been an exciting experiment that has worked out well. I'm glad I was able to get it working, even if it took some trial and error. If you're interested in trying out hackintoshing for yourself, I encourage you to give it a try – just be aware that Nvidia's cards, especially RTX cards, don't work with macOS.
